Everyone is invited to church's 142nd

On July 6, Stewarton United Church, formerly St. James Presbyterian Church, will celebrate its 142nd birthday. Built in 1866 on land donated by Alexander Stewart, it served the people of Stewarton and East and West Scotch Settlement until 1960 when it was closed for regular worship. Three services a year are held now, an anniversary service in July, a lamplight service in October and one on the first Sunday in Advent.
This year the service will be conducted by Rev. Debra Baker; special guest speaker, Presbyterian minister Rev. Paul Brown, Joe Ness playing the organ, (which was purchased from W.H. Bell , direct importer of pianos, organs, and swinging machines in Saint John N.B. in 1914 for a cost of $135) and special singing group, Cornerstone, from Sussex who will share their talents. A time of fellowship will be held after the service with a special treat of strawberry shortcake. Church plates will be for sale which will go towards the maintenance of the church. Come help us celebrate this beautiful, historic church on July 6 at 3 p.m. Sandwiches would be appreciated.
