Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

Thumbs Up to the Millstream Volunteer Fire Department whose members annually volunteer their time at the Sussex Regional High School prom by directing traffic and parking cars. Thank you. Submitted

Thumbs Up to the Sussex Wesleyan Church for their fabulous baccalaureate service on June 15, and particularly to Rev. Rob MacCallum for his excellent sermon.

Thumbs Up to the DOT and provincial government for keeping graveled roads graded when needed. Keep up the good work, boys. Submitted

Thumbs Down to the CBC Sports Department for losing the rights to the Hockey Night In Canada theme. How could that have happened? It's an icon, a tradition, a piece of Canadiana.

Thumbs Down to the Department of Transportation for putting permanent signs right on the road not on the side of the road where Route 10 meets Prescott Hill. Within a day, someone had already hit one of the signs. Not the most well-thought-out plan. Submitted

Thumbs Down to customer service employees who do not know how to give customer service. Chatting with others while customers wait is not good customer service.

Thumbs Down to businesses in town that are not wheelchair-accessible. Submitted

Thumbs Down to people who don't and won't stop for pedestrians at legal crosswalks. The traffic from one direction had stopped and let me cross but coming the other way was a man speeding in his pickup truck who almost hit me. Thank goodness it wasn't a child crossing! Submitted

Thumbs Down to the person or persons who were smoking during the SRHS graduation ceremony at the 8th Hussars Sports Centre. Take your smoke outside, far away from the building.

Thumbs Down to the inconsiderate people who, while playing baseball next to the PLP Show Centre, felt obliged to deliberately get balls over the net and into the arena while people were riding and driving their horses. These people obviously have no regard for the safety of others. The town installed a high net to help control of errant baseballs, but this particular group made it a game to circumvent the net hitting cars and trailers. One almost hit a horse being ridden by a child. Had the ball made contact, both horse and rider, and potentially bystanders, could have been hurt. Submitted

Thumbs Down to Education Minister Kelly Lamrock for not being graceful in his defeat June 11 on the early immersion cancellation issue, but instead laying further burdens on already overburdened school districts trying to put in place changes he announced only three months ago for this September.

Lamrock has to be asked to resign.Where is the premier in all this? Where are all the other Liberal MLAs? Kelly Lamrock can't be above the laws. We are a country ruled be laws not people.
