SUSSEX The steeple will go up at Bethany Bible College's Saunders Irving Chapel June 27. The first lift begins at 8 a.m.

The copper-clad steeple will stand 61 feet atop the chapel roof line of 54 feet, altogether rising 115 feet above the chapel floor. Adding to the impressive height, the chapel sits on a hill overlooking town.

A community barbecue will be held to celebrate the event beginning at 6 p.m. followed by chapel tours and an open house.

The day will end with a steeple lighting at sundown. The nine-foot lantern base of the steeple is lit from the inside with windows facing the eight points of the compass. The octagonal spire rises over 43 feet above the lantern topped by a spun copper globe, crowned by a nine-foot Celtic cross.
