Blood clinic before long weekend

SUSSEX -
The Sussex Lions Club will host a blood donor clinic on Friday, May 16. The clinic hours are noon to 4 p.m. The target is to collect 48 units during this four-hour clinic.
Blood donations before a long weekend are vitally important. With no collections for three days during the Victoria Day weekend, the inventory needs to be built up in advance and that's where residents of the Sussex area come in.
If you haven't donated in the last 56 days and are in general good health, please call 1 888 2 DONATE to book your life-saving appointment at the Lions Club clinic.
It is estimated that one in two Canadians is eligible to donate blood. Last year one in 75 actually did. New Brunswick donors are generous with 5.3 per cent of the eligible population donating blood in comparison with the national average of 3.7 per cent. However, these New Brunswickers could use more company.
To ensure a successful donation experience:
* Have something to eat before the clinic
* Drink plenty of fluids and be well-rested
* Provide identification
* Be at least 17 years old
